The Little Things
"Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." Robert Brault
There truly is no normal day at Calvary Home, especially when it comes to receiving new children. Children can come at all hours of the day or night. This week, one foster family received an adorable toddler boy. DSS brought him to the house about midnight. Of course this little boy, who we will affectionally call PJ, was very hungry. So foster mom Peggy relied on a tried and true classic by moms everywhere: Peanut Butter & Jelly. As PJ sat down to enjoy his PB&J, Peggy realized that his little head was crawling with lice. So while foster dad Rick stayed with PJ, Peggy ran to the drug store to pick up a lice treatment kit. When she returned, PJ had fallen asleep at the table over his half-eaten sandwich. For the next three hours, Peggy worked to treat his head for lice. She fell into bed about 4:00 am, and was up at 7:30 am to take another foster child to school across town.
Foster parents are not heroes. They are everyday people being faithful to do little things to care for vulnerable children day in, and day out. And along the way, they find themselves thankful for the little things in life like PB&J and drug-stores that are open 24/7.
