The vision for Calvary Home for Children began in 1992. Members from several Upstate South Carolina churches participated in missions trips to a children's home in Columbus, Mississippi. After witnessing that work in Mississippi and being burdened by the increase in child abuse and abandonment incidences in South Carolina, this group of men and women had a vision to see similar work in the Upstate.
In early 1998, a Board of Directors was formed to begin the process of raising funds and making Calvary Home for Children a reality. Building began and in 2002, the first cottage opened and began receiving children. Since then, a second cottage has been completed and we are in the process of completing our third cottage and counseling center.
The mission of Calvary Home for Children is to present the hope of Christ to children who are without adequate family structure and in need of a long-term, Christ-centered home. We seek to keep siblings together, to teach reformed evangelical Christian values, to mend emotional scars, and to provide biblical counseling. Our desire is to give each child the full opportunity to reach his or her God-given potential.
Calvary Home for Children is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization. It is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors made up of Christian community leaders who share a passion for helping children in need.
